'blind dates end in bleeding hearts'
Ted Darling is back and his boss has news for him. He'll be taking on more responsibility over an expanded area, with a bigger team. Before he even has chance to take stock, he's facing his first body in what could be the most cynical murder he's ever encountered.
The corpse count rises with a separate case developing, where a savage killer appears to be selecting victims from online dating sites and dispatching them in vicious, frenzied attacks.
With potentially two serial killers at work, Ted has plenty on his plate. But then he discovers that not all coppers work like he and his team do. Some of them just want to see someone behind bars, and aren't too fussy if they are guilty or not.
The Ted Darling series of crime novels comprises The First Time Ever, Baby's Got Blue Eyes, Two Little Boys, When I'm Old and Grey, Shut Up and Drive, Only the Lonely, Wild Thing, Walk on By, Preacher Man. Look out for new titles to come in this popular crime series.
Only the Lonely 'blind dates end in bleeding hearts' Ted Darling crime series Book 6 edition by L M Krier Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
This is the 5th in the Ted Darling series, and it deserves 5 stars. It is so well plotted and written that you skim along and are finished reading before you expect it to be over. Detective Inspector Ted Darling is a 5-Star character. His personality and sleuthing skills are exemplary, but he can show an angry side when it is called for. He is a memorable character and very likeable. He makes you wish more constabulary were as fair and as smart as he is. not only in figuring out criminals' motives but also in the way he treats his subordinates.Ted and the Team are back, and it's so good to catch up and read about the latest murders they must solve. I always find myself trying to guess the reasons, if not the culprits, but I seldom can keep up with the way this bright author's mind works while writing her books. This is a great stand-alone book, but I really recommend reading the first four in the series, to grasp a better understanding of these interesting, complex characters. I love starting a new book and settling in to feel like I'm home, visiting with old friends with familiar quirks and personalities. Ted has added some new detectives and sergeants to his team this time because he has been promoted and has responsibility to investigate crimes for a larger area. Each member of his team has some interesting traits that grab your attention and make you eager to find out what they will be doing in the latest book.
Then there's Ted's lover and partner, Trevor, who is loyal, handsome and very intelligent, and speaks several languages. Their relationship is one of true love and mutual admiration and respect. Not too sappy, though, they come across just right, or just the way one would wish.
I highly recommend this book, as well as all written by this author. She never fails to entertain.

Only the Lonely 'blind dates end in bleeding hearts' Ted Darling crime series Book 6 edition by L M Krier Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Another good read from L M Krier and the plot this time has Ted chasing a particularly nasty killer who is apparently targeting online dating sites. Of course I am not going to give a spoiler - suffice to say that this book delves deeper yet into the characters of Ted, Trev and the lives of the team.
I really enjoyed this one and felt - after reading the first four books that I now "know" Ted, a thoroughly likeable character.
I am particularly drawn to the English setting of the book, because the UK is a country I love dearly.
This book is number five in the series and the fifth one I've read. Ted is promoted to head a flying squad handling murders around a greater area. The only problem I have with these books is that Ted is unrealistically perfect. Were Krier's writing not so impelling, I'd complain. I like all the members of his team, the methods with which they go about solving plots (in this book he's working simultaneously on two sets of serial killings), and the relationships between not only Ted and his team, but the team members among themselves, Ted and his bosses, Ted and Trevor. These books are not difficult.
This fifth novel, again, has a very good plot line with two really nasty criminals on the loose, responsible for a multitude of deaths. One is targeting people using social media to "hook up," the other killing as part of a real estate deal. My oh my, what people won't do; and both seemed very plausible. As I've noted before, I'm a bit tired of the use of sobriquets (Ice Queen and Pocket Billiards) over and over again, but they seemed less so this time out. I'm unsure of how I feel about the increased innuendo and intimacy between Ted, DCI Darling, and his partner, Trev. Maybe if readers had not objected to their relationship through earlier books, the author felt okay with ramping up that part of their lives. I don't think it added to the story line or to the development of their characters. I would rather have Trev portrayed more fully and a greater glimpse into his nature - not just his baking skills, love of motorcycles, and his patience with the life of a policeman. His blue eyes sparkled, even in the dark. He could pose an opportunity for further depth, perhaps even as narrator of a future book. He does seem a stereotype of a gay man to me; therefore, one star is missing from this really good book.
With this review I am including all five of the books I have read in this series. DI, Ted Darling, and his team of homicide detectives and how their methodology solves heinous, bloody crimes in their district (I think in a district near Glasgow, Scotland). I have a bad habit of getting 1/4 way through a book and then realizing I'm not sure where it's taking place. So don't be like me.
The author, LM Krier, really gives all her characters body. They are nice people making a living with good (and also irritating qualities), just like us. She is an excellent story teller. You can read each book as a stand-alone but I would suggest you start at #1 (Baby's Got Blue Eyes) and just work your way through.
Because DI Darling definitely has his problems that he deals with his own way, solving the crime doesn't necessarily erase his demons. The book ends when the crime is solved and that leaves you wondering if it supposed to be cliffhanger(ish). The answer is no. But during the next book(s) she answers aftermath questions you didn't even know you had. Krier is very subtle about it just mentioning stuff that casually refers back to something that happened previously. You say to yourself as you are reading...'oh yea'!
A huge plus is that there are no tedious, long drawn out sex scenes to wade through. Now how refreshing is that. I'm so over having to skip page after page of nothing but raw sex. When I was 17 it was OK.
Instead she puts those pages to good use by actually having her main characters use their heads to solve crimes. I could go off into the plots of the stories, but it wouldn't add anything new to what has already been said, or you can just read the liner notes.
In summary, read all 5 books in a row.
I can hardly wait for the 6th.
