John Mansur, page 8, is number I; Elizabeth, his eldest child, is 1-1 John, the younger child, is 1-2, i. E. The second child of the eldest child. Thus, William the second child of John (1-2) has in addition to his father's number a figure indicating that he is the second child of the second child of the eldest child of the founder of the family.
This system is maintained throughout, and permits the addi tion of new families without change in the system of notation, a matter of some moment when a family record is not complete.
